My Favourite Tropes

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is my top ten favourite tropes. 

Obviously I’ve spoken about this trope many times in my blog but there is nothing I love more than a hate to love trope in a romance setting. Even a hate to love friendship I absolutely love. Examples include: The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

Some outside force (cultural, familial, social, etc.) is determined to keep our lovers apart but they’re willing to fight for the relationship they desire. Examples include: The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

Ever since reading Harry Potter I’ve just really loved this trope as well. Knowing that our protagonist is destined to save the world and follow their prospective journey to that moment is one of my favourites! Examples include: Harry Potter series by J.k. Rowling

When the hero and usually a handful of secondary characters sets out on a quest with a specific goal. Examples include: Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan

When a character is perhaps an orphan or has been separated from their family or has been disowned by their parents that have found friendships that have turned into familial bonds and they become a ragtag group of characters who have formed a family. Examples include: Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo

When the guy doesn’t get the girl or maybe the main character’s dreams doesn’t get fulfilled. When a book ends in way that is completely unexpected and you don’t really know how to feel. Examples include: What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli & Adam Silvera

The nice, sweet, endearing, charismatic character that you initially root for until something happens to make them change their whole demeanour and suddenly they are the bad guy! Example include: Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

When two character find themselves in a situation where they pretend to date. I love it when these characters go into a relationship with no intent to actually gain any feelings when inevitably you know they are going to end up together. Examples include: To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

The one bad boy who is secretly misunderstood or once he actually opens up is loving and sweet despite his appearance or reputation. Examples include: The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

When seemingly out of no where the friend stabs the main character in the back. I especially love it when it comes out of no where and really shocks me! Examples include: Red Sister by Mark Lawrence
