You revolves around a guy named Joe who has become obsessed with a girl named Beck after she walks into the bookstore he works at and strikes up a conversation.

I loved the premise of this book; it really captivated me from the start. Having the book from the perspective of Joe and seeing the way his brain works and how he justifies his actions throughout the course of the book was fascinating. I don’t believe I’ve ever read a book from the perspective of the bad guy before and I was hooked!

Beck wasn’t a favourite character of mine. I thought she wasn’t all that likable and a little bit pretentious. I found myself not quite invested in her character fully yet I wanted to know what was going to happen next. Her friends were also not very likable either, I found there wasn’t really any depth to them and they were only really just a tool to further along the plot.

 I thought the pacing of the story was perfect. The slow buildup of tension really kept me hooked in the story and I was eager to read on. I thought the plot twists were placed at the perfect points in the story and really kept the intensity at an all-time high. The stakes kept rising and Joe really had some close calls and I found myself wanting him to get away with everything, it was strange.

I thought Caroline Kepnes really captured the mind of a stalker, while also allowing him to remain relatable and human in a way. I like the way that the book was formatted as well. I thought the use of second-person narration was executed flawlessly, having his voice in my mind while reading about him stalking someone was intense!

35391237._SY475_After the battle with Katharine the rebellion has fled back to Sunspool to recoup. Jules’s legion curse has been unbound after her mother’s death, leaving her out of her mind. Arsinoe has been keeping her quiet using her poisoner and low magic skills. Mirabella has disappeared and Katharine’s reign over Fennbirn still remains intact but it’s tenuous at best.

I thought all of the character development that occurred throughout the series really shone in this book. Just seeing how different the triplets are from one another yet still there is that undercurrent feeling of love and hope between them. I think that is what Mira is banking on when she ends up abandoning the rebellion and trusting Katharine not to kill her, also why Arsinoe doesn’t want to believe that Mira defected. They say time and time again that it would be easy to kill each other yet when it comes down to that moment they always pause and hesitate. The dead queens are really the ones who do all of the killing, Katharine is merely the vessel that they have been using to further along their plot to take over Fennbirn.

The previous books did such a good job establishing the world and the overall tone of the series that this book just launched straight back into the plot. Even though it has been over a year since I read the last book it was very easy to fall back into this world. The characters are all so distinct and varied and the plot was defined and easy to follow along with. The fantastical elements were incorporated quite organically into the story line and it was very engaging.

I thought the ending was very fitting for the series. I wasn’t able to predict anything that was going to happen and I was left feeling very fulfilled. It definitely didn’t blow me away by any means but I highly enjoyed my experience reading it!

40367270Four Dead Queens follows a few perspectives, we have the four queens who preside over different quadrants in the nation. Each quadrant has different rules and regulations and is strictly separated from each other. Keralie is a thief who steals a valuable item off a messenger to sell in her quadrant’s black market and is swept into a conspiracy to kill the four queens.

Keralie’s character was a little stale. I found she isn’t the most likeable of characters out there. She has many flaws and doesn’t really learn from her mistakes a whole lot. I just wasn’t that big a fan of hers I guess. Varin I did really enjoy. I like that we are given a lot more background and context about his quadrant and the way they live. I thought it was really interested how he contrasts with Keralie. She is very outspoken, tenacious and a little impulsive, whereas he is quite focused and quiet and rigid. I like that we see him thaw out and become a little more conformative over the course of the plot line and I found him a lot more interesting than Keralie.

I thought the Queens were all very distinctive and diverse. I wish we got a little more time to get to know them individually before they died. In the short amount of time we are given we do learn a lot about each of them and how they are all kind of leading their own lives despite how controlled they are by the laws.

The way the book was structured was quite unique. The dual timelines and the flashbacks were all very engaging. I was very much invested in the plot and I had multiple predictions in my mind about who the assassin was. When the identity of the killer came out I was definitely a little confused. Like I said I had my theories and she was one of them but I didn’t know how it would be possible. The way it was explained I guess made sense but I thought it was a little too predictable. There were some good twists thrown in and in the end I was satisfied.

I liked the world, I could of used a little more context and explanations regarding the history. Overall I was thoroughly entertained, the pacing was quite fast, I haven’t read anything like this before, I just kind of wish this was a duology and was spread out a bit more and went a little more in depth.

42771754Supernova continues straight off where Archenemies ended. Nova is close to being outed as an Anarchist, especially after stealing Ace’s helmet from Headquarters and she is now desperately trying to figure out a way to rescue Ace from prison before he is administered with Agent N.

I loved the internal struggle that Nova had to deal with. Not knowing where her true allegiances lie and really having to make a decision whether or not she is a true Anarchist or a Renegade. I loved seeing her character evolve over the course of the story and to see her state of mind shift after working with Adrian and the rest of her crew. She is such a unique character who isn’t afraid to be the bad guy in order to do what she thinks is right.

I just find Adrian so wholesome and endearing. He really tries his hardest to be everything that the world expects him to be and I loved how even though all evidence pointed to Nova he still tried to finds a way to prove her innocence. It really showed how loyal he is to his friends!

I thought the pacing of the book was very well done! There was a steady build-up of anticipation and there were various twists and turns and revelations that kept me invested and eager to read on! I wasn’t a fan of the whole fight scene at the end though. It was a little too all over the place for me, but I think it’s a me problem and nothing to do with the book. I just get a little lost when there is a whole lot of action all at once and that’s kind of what happened. I like the betrayal element forcing Nova to choose sides, but ultimately it didn’t matter anyway.

I’m not sure how I feel about how the book ended. I liked how Max played such a key role in this book, I had a feeling since he was the catalyst for defeating Ace last time that he would reprise that same role. It was a little underwhelming to be totally honest but I did still really enjoy the read. I flew through the book and I was highly invested in the characters and the plotline!

17342700Gathering Darkness pretty much continues straight from where Rebel Spring ended. Magnus is back at the castle after everything happened at the camp where the rebel forces have been decimated. Jonas is one of the only survivor’s left and Lysandra and three others including her brother Gregory have been captured and are currently in the dungeons awaiting execution. Cleo and Lucia have started to grow closer and everyone has their eyes on the Kraeshian’s Amara and Ashur.

I loved this book. I just felt like we really dug so much deeper and we are definitely rooted into the story. All of the establishing phase of the series I think is done and now its really starting to explore the mythology and build up a lot more intrigue and tension.

I think a lot of the book was centred more around Cleo and her interactions with all of the other characters, but I am absolutely LOVING all of it. The tenuous relationship between Lucia and Cleo is so entertaining. I like that even though it is built on lies they still sort of have a bond together and I think they really would have been great friends if King Gaius hadn’t of killed all of Cleo’s family. I’m still a little on the fence with the whole Cleo, Jonas and Magnus love triangle. I am a hard shipper of Cleo with Magnus, I just love a good hate to love trope and I think this was done perfectly! It was just the right amount of angst, stubbornness and hatred for me to be on board! Jonas I think doesn’t really know who he likes at the moment. I predict that he is going to end up with Lysandra even though he still is pining over Cleo. It just makes sense that he would want to honour Brion and keep Lysandra safe, thus feelings will grow stronger.

OMG I really enjoyed the twist with Nic and Ashur. I thought it was built up just enough and came at exactly the right time in the plot. Everything kind of felt like it was just plodding along steadily and then that really like woke me up and kept me invested enough to finish it off!

Lucia honestly I never really liked from the start and now she starting to get a little self-centred and boring. She seems very selfish and unlikeable to me. I much prefer the underdog in the story like Cleo. Lucia is just a selfish princess who has been given everything in life and just expects to get what she wants. I do like the direction her character seems to be going and I’m invested enough in the story to want to know what she will do next.
