Oathbringer

IMG_2126I am such a huge fan of the Stormlight Archives. I started with Words of Radiance earlier this year and I have honestly not looked back! I wasn’t the biggest fan of Edgedancer which I read a few months ago but I have a feeling that Lift is definitely going to be a stronger protagonist in this instalment. I am definitely more of a high/epic fantasy reader and this series just encompasses everything that I love about the genre. A plethora of characters that interweave throughout the plot, a magic system that is well defined and original and a world that is huge and very well developed. Brandon Sanderson is an amazing writer and I am low key sad that I won’t get another book in this series for a few years. There is still so many of his books that I haven’t read though so I will definitely be keeping myself busy in the meantime.

December TBR

The majority of the books on this month’s TBR are books that I need to read to complete/continue on in a few series that I have been loving. I am super excited to read all of these books on the list and I will definitely have more time towards the end of this month to read because the holidays are coming up! I cannot believe that it’s the end of 2018 already, this year has completely flew by!

That being said my TBR for December includes:

Edgedancer Review

81SuJQI8uNLI enjoyed my time reading Edgedancer but I don’t think it is a completely necessary. It was really just kind of ok for me.

This is a continuation of the character Lift who has a small role in Words of Radiance. I think she only had a couple of chapters in the whole book. We follow on after she is captured by the darkness who has been following her for the last few months.

I like Lift as a character. I thought she was quirky and different and brought a lightheartedness to the storyline. However it was a little too slow paced for me for the first half of the novella. It’s pretty much a reread of her chapters from Words of Radiance and then the story continues and that kind of bored me a little and made me a little less invested. I did still really enjoy the introduction to the Darkness and how he is connected to the White Assassin Szeth, that was fun to connect those dots together.

I can really see the characters that are introduced in Edgedancer being highly integral to the plot in the coming books in the Stormlight Archives and I am super excited to continue on in this series with Oathbringer very soon!

⭐️3.5/5 stars I enjoyed Lift and Wyndle but wasn’t blown away by the story.

Edgedancer

IMG_1883It is time for me to continue on in the Stormlight Archive and jump straight into Edgedancer! I am very much in love with this series from the moment that I picked up The Way of Kings. I am fully engrossed in the storyline and I am in awe of Brandon Sanderson’s masterful writing style and his immense imagination. I will admit when I first came across Lift in Words of Radiance I didn’t quite pay much attention to her arc and thought it was inconsequential. She didn’t really draw me in as much as some of the other characters in the series, however, knowing that she has her own novella has really piqued my interest about her character. I cannot wait to once again dive into this world and see what else it has to offer.

October TBR

Kind of following on from last month and doing some catch ups as well as a couple I’ve been eyeing and a few books I’ve been putting off for a while now. I’m excited for the books I’m hoping to read this month and hopefully I find a few that I fall in love with.

The first 4 books on my TBR for October is The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater. This series consists of The Raven Boys, The Dream Thieves, Blue Lily, Lily Blue and The Raven King. This is another series that is very well loved in the YA community and again I just haven’t gotten around to picking them up and reading them.

The next book on my TBR for October is Fire Study by Maria V Snyder. I’ve been slowly making my way through the Study Series and I have absolutely loved it! Poison Study was great and Magic Study was even better, so I am very excited to finally get to Fire Study and continue on in the wonderful narrative Maria V Snyder has created.

The 6th and 7th books on my TBR are the Monsters of Verity duology by Victoria Schwab. This duology consists of This Savage Song and Our Dark Duet. I have loved every book I have read so far by Victoria Schwab but I realised I haven’t read any of her YA books yet. I’ve heard nothing but great things about these books so I am eager to give them a read and see what I think.

I would also love to read Nevernight and Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff this month. I have been eyeing off these books for a while now and after finishing and loving the Illuminae files that Jay co-wrote really spurred me on to pick this book up and read it. It is a lot more my style being a dark, YA fantasy series and I can never get enough!

And lastly this if I get enough time I would also like to read Edgedancer by Brandon Sanderson. This is a novella thats follows on after Words of Radiance and before Oathbringer. I haven’t really looked that much into it but I believe this follows the perspective of one of the minor characters that popped up in Words of Radiance.
