Back in January I posted about 5 diverse books I really wanted to read in 2021 and now that we are halfway through the year I thought I would post an update! I have actually read 3 out of 5 of the books and I had a few mixed thoughts/feeling about them.
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Morena-Garcia
This was an intriguing, dark, weird and twisted tale that didn’t shy away from shocking the reader. I appreciate how far Silvia Moreno-Garcia was willing to push the plot and take it to a place that I wasn’t able to predict for sure. This was highly original and in the end quite thrilling and action packed.
My Rating: ⭐️3/5 stars

These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong
I liked the fact that we are given insight into the other characters and it just isn’t all about Juliette and Roma. I was also highly invested in the two gangs and the way they differentiated from each other. Learning about the blood feud and why the two gangs are so willing to kill each other when they breach each other’s territories gave much needed depth and excitement.
My Rating: ⭐️3/5 stars

The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones
Overall this was not what I was expecting at all! I almost forgot going into it that it was a horror and surprised by the graphic scenes, but it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting to know what is going to happen next. I almost wish it was longer, but then I feel like overcomplicating this premise would of made it less intriguing. So it is what it is.

The other two books I still need to read are:
