*Spoilers, Spoilers, Spoilers*
This was absolutely amazing!
This is going to be really hard to write all of my feelings down for because there was so much going on in this book all at once it seems. The pace was constantly fast and there was always something hovering over all of them that kept the stakes high throughout the course of the book.
Julian and Emma were the stars of this book I found. Their struggle with the parabatai curse and having to hold back their emotions or even cut them off all together in Julian’s case was heart wrenching. I really didn’t envision a solution for them, I truly thought that we would get an ending where they wouldn’t be able to be together or they would be exiled away from their families. The way that Cassandra Clare was able to navigate around that was very smooth.
Ty and Kit were probably one of my favourite sub plots of the book. Their relationship and how it evolved after Livvy’s death was wonderful to read. Ty having this advantageous plan that could reap some serious consequences on the universe and Kit knowing they shouldn’t go through with it but allows it because he knows how much this means to Ty. Then right when Ty is about to go through with it Kit finally speaks up…uh I loved it so much!
I was definitely intrigued by Kit and how much everyone seemed to be invested in him. Tessa and Gem always popping up to see how he was and making Emma swear to watch over him and keep him safe. Then having Jace come in and sort of mentoring him and being kind of like an older brother I thought was very touching. There was one scene in particular when Kit asks Jace for a weapon of his own and the exchange they had after was just the cutest!
The whole clave aspect of the Shadowhunter world was always something that I didn’t enjoy. I found that when they convened the Shadowhunters were always very selfish and prejudiced. Save for the few who actually care about the downworlders and live side by side with them the majority don’t care and are susceptible to the vitriol that the cohort would spew once they sprang up. Finally seeing a change and growth from the clave and the Shadowhunters as a whole towards the end of the book was satisfying!
The ending was another aspect I didn’t quite enjoy of the book. The fact that the majority of the Shadowhunters just acquiesced to their demands was unfulfilling in my eyes. I know that for the majority of the time they aren’t living in Idris, but that is their ancestral home and the fact they would just let it go without some form of a fight was kind of strange.
That being said I was still very much in love with this book. The few little flaws that I picked up along the way were definitely outweighed by the sheer mass of the plot and characters and world. It was so full of intense action, emotional turmoil, grief and love. It is again everything I love about a fantasy series.
⭐️5/5 stars HIGHLY RECOMMEND! This is a wonderful series that any fantasy/non fantasy lover will enjoy!
I cannot believe the time has come and I know have this book in my hands!! This is absolutely my most highly anticipated book release of the year. I am having flashbacks to last year picking up Lord of Shadows and reliving all the emotions and feelings that came out of that book. I think the Dark Artifices series is fast becoming my new favourite series of Cassandra Clare. I think her writing has gotten more developed and the story of the Blackthorn family is just so compelling. Julian and Emma’s relationship and their progression over the course of the books is wonderful to read, they are definitely one of my favourite YA couples. I am picking this book up and reading it right now!
The majority of the books on this month’s TBR are books that I need to read to complete/continue on in a few series that I have been loving. I am super excited to read all of these books on the list and I will definitely have more time towards the end of this month to read because the holidays are coming up! I cannot believe that it’s the end of 2018 already, this year has completely flew by!
That being said my TBR for December includes:
Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor
Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson
Shadow Study and Night Study by Maria V Snyder
Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare
Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner
The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Pirates by Mackenzi Lee
Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli
Arch Enemies by Marissa Meyer
Wildcard by Marie Lu
These are the top 5 book releases of the second half of 2018 that I am eagerly anticipating. I cannot wait to get my hands on these books and I am excited to be continuing on in some of my favourite series.
The 1st book I’m excited to be released is Two Dark Reigns by Kendare Blake. I believe this is the third and final book in the Three Dark Crowns series that I also read earlier this year consisting of Three Dark Crowns and One Dark Throne. This is a dark, atmospheric fantasy series that I flew through when I read them. I loved the characters and their growth and the twists and turns that occur are very entertaining to read. Released September 25th 2018
The 2nd book I cannot wait to read is Wildcard by Marie Lu. I read Warcross earlier this year and absolutely loved it. Emika as a character was one of my favourite female protagonists I’ve read this year, she’s clever, she’s street savvy but also tenacious and persistent. I enjoyed the gradual relationship she shared with Hideo and after that cliff-hanger at the end I can’t wait to get stuck in and see what happens next. Released September 17th 2018
The 3rd book on my list is Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor. I actually have Strange the Dreamer as one of my top 10 books of 2018 so far, so I am excited to jump straight back into that world and continue on in the story. Strange the Dreamer is lyrical and whimsical and different than anything I’ve read before. Released 2nd October 2018
The 4th book I am anticipating for the second half of this year is Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Maas. This is the seventh and I think last book in the Throne of Glass series. I just finished Tower of Dawn and that really catapulted me right back into the story and hyped my back up for this series. I loved reading Throne of Glass and I can’t wait to see how Aelin works her way out of her current predicament and we finally get the outcome of the war. Released 23rd October 2018
The last book on my list that I can’t wait to get me hands on is Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare. This is the third book in the Dark Artifices series and oh my goodness have I been waiting. Lord of Shadows really broke me emotionally after that ending and I honestly don’t know what is going to happen next. How Emma and Julian and the rest of the Blackthorns are going to deal emotionally as well as the ramifications felt throughout the rest of the clave. This is probably my most anticipated book of 2018 and I’m excited that the release date is getting closer and closer. Released 4th December 2018
