Legendary

img_2905I read Caraval last year and I was entertained yet it was not quite as captivating as I hoped. The atmosphere of the book was quite dark and mysterious with an air of danger attached. I definitely couldn’t predict anything that was going to happen which I enjoy in a fantasy book, it keeps me invested in the storyline. I thought the twists were well timed and the characters were somewhat likeable, Donatella wasn’t a favourite of mine. That being said the magic system kind of fell a little flat for me in the book. So I am hoping it is really explained and expanded more in Legendary. I am excited to get into this book and hopefully I like it even more than its predecessor.

Skyward

img_2867bhsnThis book has been on my radar since it came out late last year. It seems that all the reviews I’ve seen for this book has been super positive so that has me intrigued. From what I gather its a kind of sci-fi/fantasy story and I haven’t really read any sci-fi for a while now so I am very keen to get started. The premise of the book sounds very promising and as I just finished Oathbringer last month I am yearning for more of Brandon Sanderson’s writing. His world building and magical elements are always so epic and original, I am very eagerly anticipating this read. I really hope it lives up to the hype!

The Mara Dyer Series

img_2865I was actually really surprised how much I enjoyed The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer. When I picked it up I just had this feeling like I knew I wasn’t going to be a fan, I kind of had this preconceived notion that it was going to be slow and boring and that wasn’t the case at all. I think it’s also mostly due to the fact that I haven’t really heard a lot of good reviews for this series. I try not to let anything I hear sway my reading plans but sometimes it niggles in the back of my mind and I can’t help it. I am really glad that I did end up enjoying the book and I am really excited to continue on with The Evolution and The Retribution of Mara Dyer. The first book ended on a pretty intense cliff hanger and I can’t wait to get into all of it in the next installment in the series!!

⚡️Harry Potter Update⚡️

img_2565So I couldn’t help myself and finished The Philosopher’s Stone and continued straight onto my other illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets that I also got for Christmas. I finished it in one sitting and can I just say how incredibly beautiful these editions are, the illustrations just enhanced the experience sooo much and I am loving my rereads so far! I am itching to continue on with The Prisoner of Azkaban but I want to get my hands on the third illustrated edition first. I was really hoping to drag my readings out and maybe do one a month and that way it was take up most of the year, but I really can’t see that happening. I am loving diving into this world again so much that I think I will be bingeing the series and finishing quite soon! I won’t be doing reviews on the books, I want to stick to reviewing what’s on my TBR’s every month, I think I will just continue to give updates!

Leah on the Offbeat

IMG_2124Simon vs. the Homosapiens Agenda was definitely one of my more liked contemporary reads of the year. I found Simon to be very effervescent and witty, Leah on the other hand kind of got on my nerves a little bit throughout the storyline. I just felt like she was a bit moody and sulky and didn’t really act like a best friend should. But then she does have her own story and I’m sure there was a reason behind her behaviour that will be shed in this book. I think she’s also struggling with her own sexuality during the same time Simon was so that will be interesting to dive into! I flew through Simon vs. the Homosapiens Agenda in I think one sitting; it was a very quick, easy read so I’m looking forward to the same from Leah on the Offbeat!
