January TBR

This month is going to be pretty crazy so I am not going to put too much pressure on myself to complete this TBR. What I will endeavour to do is complete some of the series continuations I have going at the moment. Some of these books I have been anticipating for the longest time and I still haven’t read them yet so they are going to the top of my reading list for 2021!

My January TBR consists of:

⚔️An Ember in the Ashes Series Reread⚔️

It’s not long now until A Sky Beyond the Storm is released and I ended up completing A Reaper at the Gates just in the nick of time for it! This book really breaks away from the original premise and expands so much more upon the storyline. We really see each of the main characters have to undergo a myriad of challenges and obstacles they need to overcome in order to defeat the Commandant and the Nightbringer. They all go through so much turmoil and strife and yet it’s still not enough. I liked the fact that in these books they don’t end up saving the day and miraculously figure out a way to fix all the problems in the Empire. New problems are presented and unforeseen circumstances pop up all the time which is a realistic way to portray the story and keep me entertained. This book and the series as a whole so far just keeps me right at the edge of my seat, anticipating every move and plot twist. It is highly entertaining and thrilling and I am soooooo excited to recieve my copy of A Sky Beyond the Storm and see how this series will wrap up!

⚔️ An Ember in the Ashes Series Reread Update ⚔️

I just completed the second book in this series A Torch Against the Night a few days ago and I have thoughts. For one I loved that we get some new perspectives in this book, especially Helene’s. I loved seeing how drastically her position has changed over the course of the storyline and how she has had to make some immensely difficult decisions which could lead to ramifications either for her or the ones she loves. I loved getting more of an insight into her character and the depth of feelings she has for Elias and how she has had to quell them and put her family and her Gen first. Second the world expands so much more in this book as we follow Elias and Laia on their journey to Kauf. The amount of time it actually takes for them to reach the prison gives us more of a scope of just how big the empire is. Speaking of Elias and Laia it was great to see them grow closer and come to trust each other completely and how unfair it is that they have to keep each other at arms length. Elias’s whole storyline I am not a fan of simply because I am yearning for them to be able to be together but alas that is not going to happen any time soon. Reading this the second time around I completely forgot about the twist involving Keenan. It was a nice experience to kind of be surprised again and connect all of the dots that were littered throughout the storyline. I wasn’t as in love with this book as opposed to the first simply because there wasn’t as much going on in this book. The stakes were definitely there and there is a lot of context given but it felt like a filler book for the series. It sowed the seeds that are definitely going to come into fruition as the series continues and I am excited to read on!

Bookoplathon Wrap Up

As I said in my TBR post whenever I was in the mood to pick up a book I rolled and moved around the board and picked a book that corresponded to the prompt I landed on. For this particular readathon I only did 5 rolls, I was having a little bit of a slumpy month and I didn’t want to force myself to pick up a book just because it fit whatever I landed on. I did a pretty good job matching what I was actually interested in reading to what I landed on so I am pretty stoked with my results and this readathon. I thought it was a really fun, unique concept and I will definitely be participating in any future rounds. My rolls were: 8-9-5-8-5
