2024 Bookish Goals

It’s Top Ten Tuesday time once again friends and the prompt is bookish goals for 2024. We had the same prompt around this time last year so I revisited my post and I’ve found that I have exactly the same goals 😅 so I figured I’d just repost last years goals again and try and incorporate these thoughts into my life moving forward in 2024!

I’ve made a bit of a habit of just buying and reading books because they are super hyped and popular even though the actual book doesn’t interest me. I could be a genre that I don’t usually read from or the premise doesn’t intrigue me but because everyone is talking/raving about it I still pick it up and read it anyway and I usually don’t enjoy it. I just think it’s a waste of time and I could be reading a book that I actually want to read.

I’ve been finding as of late that when I’m trying to find what book I want to read next I will look at the page count and see how long the book is which will influence whether or not I choose that book. Like if I have two books I’m choosing between and one is 500 pages and the other is on 300 I will pick that one because it is shorter not because I’m interested in that one more. I want to try and dismiss this train of thought and pick books because I’m excited to read them not because I could finish it in one day.

It’s kind of hard to explain but I kind of forget that there is a world in these books that I enjoy diving into and I let the page count or the number of books in the series deter me from continuing on. Which hopefully this year I can overcome and actually finish some series that I have been in the middle of for literally years now!

I’ve set my Goodreads goals for 80 this year instead of the 100 I usually would do. I don’t want to focus too much on the number of books I read and instead try and focus on the quality so this is more of a tentative goal. I would still love to read anywhere from 80-100 books again in 2023 but I don’t want my need to complete this deter me from picking up longer books and taking my time getting through them.

The last goal I wish to set for myself this year is to just be happy. I think if I accomplish the rest of my goals it will make for a great year and that will definitely make me happy!

2023 Bookish Goals

It’s Top Ten Tuesday time once again friends and this week’s prompt is your bookish goals for 2023 so here are 5 of mine:

Goodreads Reading Goal

alcemist1Super excited to announce as of yesterday I completed my 2020 Goodreads Reading Goal of 100 books!!! I had the same goal last year and I believe I completed it around late July so I’m running a little behind but I am still super stoked I was able to complete it. It honestly doesn’t feel like I’ve read 100 books this year but due to the current situation in the world I’ve definitely had a lot more time to stay home and read! Last year I ended up completing 172 books so it will be interesting to see what I will end up with at the end of 2020. Hopefully everyone is able to complete their Reading Goals for the year and if you don’t I still hope you read some great books!! 😊

Goodreads Reading Goal

readingDuring the Reading Rush last week I managed to reach and surpass my Goodreads Reading Goal for 2019!!! Last year I gave myself a goal of 70 books and if I remember correctly I completed that around October and just finished shy of 100 books by the end of 2018 with 99 books read. So I decided for 2019 to have a goal of 100 books because I got so close last year and because I don’t think I have ever read 100 books before in a year. To have completed and surpassed that goal by late July is amazing! I am super proud of myself and I’ve just been having a really great reading year so far and I look forward to continuing on the next 5 months and seeing how many I manage to get through by the new year!

Reading/Blogging Goals Update

This year for the first time I set a few reading/blogging goals and I thought since we are now mid way through 2019 I would do a quick update, see how I am going and what I need to work on for the second half of the year!

My first goal was to continue blogging every weekday and try to produce more fun detailed content – I think I am doing very well with this goal! I don’t think I’ve missed any postings this year which is a win for me and I do feel like I’ve been branching out more and doing some different posts than what I would usually.

The second goal was to read more books that I actually interest me – I think I have definitely gotten out of my habit of just buying books that are super hyped even though I am not interested in actually reading it. Finally going back and utilising my library has been a great means of opening up my TBR and having a lot more options for me to peruse and see what I actually want to read. Also implementing mood reading instead of having a set TBR each month has had a great impact on my reading output!

The next goal was my Goodreads Reading Goal for 2019 which I set at 100 books – I have currently read 89 books in 2019 so far, so I am well on my way to smashing this goal which is really exciting for me!

The fourth goal I set for myself in 2019 is to find a balance between reading/blogging and life – This unfortunately is where I haven’t had the most success. I still feel like I am putting my reading before my health and responsibilities. I have a full time job so at the end of the day when I get home I find I am just shirking everything I really need to do to just sit down and read. I may need to implement some scheduled reading times everyday or have a to-do list I need to complete of an afternoon before I allow myself to be lost in a book!

The last goal I set for myself this year is to just be happy – So far this year has been a bit of a funny one. It seems like so much has changed and also not much has changed either if that makes sense. All I do know is that reading and blogging being a constant in my life has really brought me a sense of peace and calm!
