These are all the series that I have either read all the books this year or read the last book in the series that was published this year! I haven’t included any series that have unreleased books still, I will just add them onto future lists!
The Devouring Gray Duology by Christine Lynn Herman
For the last two years I’ve been posting about 5 books over 500 pages I have been loving and it’s around that time so I figure why not do another one! Check out 2020 & 2019 versions 🙂
Deathcaster by Cinda Williams Chima – 647 pages
Overall I’m very happy with how many point of views we get from each of the main characters. They are all so easy to differentiate and finally getting to see them all interact with each other was so satisfying and exciting. They’ve been circling for so long and scheming and to finally have everything come to a head and get answers was worth the journey for sure!
A Sky Beyond the Storm by Sabaa Tahir – 516 pages
From that first twist at the start I wasn’t able to predict anything that was going to happen next. The forced partnership between Bryce and Hunt, theThere is so much going on in this book right from the start. It has been a few months since I reread the previous books in this series so there were a few characters that I didn’t recognise at first but as the story continued I was able to regain my bearings and enjoy all of the action. I liked the fact that everyone is separated for the majority of the book and eventually find their way back together just in time. It wasn’t the fairy tale ending I was expecting where everything just magically works out, we definitely loose a lot of characters I wasn’t expecting but we gained a few as well so I was left feeling very content!
Lightbringerby Claire Legrand – 594 pages
There were a few twists that I predicted and there were many that took me by surprise. This book really blew open all of the storylines and wove them all back together so wonderfully. We learnt so much more about the Empirium and how it affects Rielle and why she was such a loose cannon, how seductive and all encompassing it is. I loved how the two timelines merged in the end and we see how much effect Eliana had on her mother after their failed attempt earlier in the series. The ending was just so satisfying and not the fairy tale I was expecting which was pleasantly surprising!
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab – 560 pages
Even though this was super hyped I was still surprised with how the story progressed. I was picturing something a little more fluffier but this was anything but. It was a lot darker and tortured than what I expected and I was pleasantly surprised! The structure and prose was beautifully done, the pacing was consistent and the dual timelines kept me invested and eager to find out what was going to happen next.
Aurora Burning by Jay Kristoff & Amie Kaufman – 512 pages
Overall there so many shocking twists and turns and moments that broke my heart. Some of the choices the characters make didn’t really sit right with me and I wish they would of went about things differently but it definitely raised the stakes and kept me engaged in the storyline. I am left with soooo many questions still and honestly I can’t wait to find out what is going to happen next!
Even though I am no longer supporting the author of the series this readathon is based on I (being the pedantic completionist I am) felt the need to finish off and complete the NEWTS this month! I decided to stick with my original career as a Spell Maker and I managed to complete and pass all of my NEWT exams which I am actually super stoked about! I needed an O in Ancient Runes, E in Arithmancy, E in Astronomy, E in Charms, O in History of Magic and an A in Transfiguration which is a total of 13 books.
