📚 Book vs. Movie 🎥

I have this recurring series on my blog where I compare books to their TV/Movie adaptations and this month my post aligns with this week’s Top 10 Tuesday prompt.

I decided to go with Twilight by Stephanie Meyer and its movie adaptation Twilight. I read the Twilight series for the first time right when Twilight came out back in 2006 and yes I will freely admit I was a hard stan for the book series, the movies however….

These were my thoughts on Twilight:

Pros: The book was very entertaining. I remember the first time I read it when I was around 13/14 I was enraptured. The premise, the storyline, the characters everything appealed to me and I was IN! I like that the movie sticks to the original plotline, and honestly that’s about it.

Cons: I mean the writing isn’t the greatest however, you can sort of lose yourself in the story so I kind of overlook it purely for the entertainment value. Bella kind of got on my nerves as well, always talking about how she is so plain and clumsy and doesn’t think she’s attractive whatsoever, but all the boys in her year all have a crush on her. Is she really that oblivious? With the movie I honestly can’t stand Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. I thought Robert just wasn’t attractive enough to be Edward, he wasn’t at all how I pictured him in my mind. With Kristen I just thought she was a horrible actress, I couldn’t take her seriously at all. So that really blew my whole experience with all of the movies!

Overall thoughts: When I was a teenager I absolutely loved this series with a passion and that whole nostalgia I have surrounding it has left a soft spot in my heart for the books. With the movies I think I stopped after New Moon, I couldn’t take it seriously and I thought a lot of the acting was subpar…

My Recommendation: 100% would recommend the books over the movies.

5 Quotes from last 5 Books I’ve Read

These are five quotes that stuck with me from the last 5 books that I’ve read! I believe this was a prompt for Top 10 Tuesday and I thought it was a fun idea so I figured I would give it a go!

99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne

“Every evil overlord needs a fluffy cat to stroke.”

Never World Wake by Marisha Pessl

“We are all anthologies. We are each thousands of pages long, filled with fairy tales and poetry, mysteries and tragedy, forgotten stories in the back no one will ever read.”

If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio

“For someone who loved words as much as I did, it was amazing how often they failed me.”

Pride by Ibi Zoboi

“never let the streets know when you’re upset. Don’t let any strangers see you cry. Hold your head up and look as if you’re ready to destroy the world if you have to.”

Final Girls by Riley Sager

“That’s not your choice. It’s already been decided for you. You can’t change what’s happened. The only thing you can control is how you deal with it.”

5 Favourite Contemporaries

So these are a few contemporary books that I have read that I really enjoyed. Its not a genre that I generally lean towards but I have been trying of late to broaden my horizons so they definitely are on my radar. I gave all of these books 4 stars and I would definitely recommend them if you haven’t picked them up!

Eliza and her Monsters by Francesca Zappia – I really felt like this book is necessary at this moment in time. The representation is wonderful and I felt like Eliza really embodies the struggle of the everyday teen in the cyber world today. Being outed online and then having to deal with the immense pressure and the anxiety that came with it felt real to me!

Simon vs. the Homosapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli – Simon vs. The Homosapiens Agenda really showcases the emotional anguish and turmoil of a young gay man in our cyber society today. It was still witty and effervescent and I love the references to pop culture, this was a great book!

Heretics Anonymous by Katie Henry – I actually only read this book today and I was actually pretty impressed. I liked the commentary about religion and how everyone is capable and willing to believe whatever they want you just need to respect their wishes. I thought Michael was very entertaining to read from and even though he is so open with his atheism he is willing to have an honest and raw conversation about the beliefs of his peers and their reasoning.

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera – I loved the concept of this book; it really had me intrigued from the start! The fact that we are basically already spoiled on the ending yet the book was still compelling enough for me to continue reading really shows how wonderful the writing is. The characters really stole the show for me, they complemented each other perfectly and the tragic nature of the story really made me connect with them more!

Turtles all the Way Down by John Green – This was my first ever John Green book and I was pleasantly surprised. I found Aza to be a super relatable character and I actually really enjoyed the plot. It was very fast paced and kind of all over the place but that kind of made it more realistic for me.

5 Favourite Fictional Couples

*There may be some spoilers if you haven’t read these books yet!*

These are five of my favourite fictional couples! Definitely not an all-time favourite list as I’m sure there are many more couples that I love also but these were the five that popped into my mind first!

Lucy and Josh – The Hating Game

One of my favourite tropes is the hate to love trope and I thought this was executed perfectly! This is only a recent read of mine but I feel perfectly comfortable putting these two in my top 5 favourite couples! The friction at the start of the novel and then to see the tension build throughout the storyline to their eventual romantic relationship was great to read!

Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky – To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

The whole premise behind this series was so endearing and fluffy and I enjoyed these two immensely! I loved how it started so impersonally with the contract and all the rules and then to see over the course of the series blossom into a full blown romance was very cute!

Ron and Hermione – Harry Potter Series

Just simply iconic! Re-reading this series recently really reinforced how much I love these two as a couple. I was so glad that they eventually got together after years and years of wondering whether or not it was going to happen. Gratification!

Feyre and Rhysand – A Court of Thorns and Roses Series

A Court of Mist and Fury blew me away when I read it and it was mainly due to Feyre and Rhysand’s relationship! I fully thought that Rhysand was the evil, dangerous, wicked fairy that he was portrayed to be and then to dig deeper into his character and the connection with Feyre was amazing! I am trash for this series and I was very happy that Feyre ended up with Rhys and not Tamlin.

Kazi and Jase – Dance of Thieves

I loved these two together! Again it’s the hate to love trope that I cannot get enough of, just in a different scenario. Kazi as a Rahtan soldier undercover, Jase the Patriarch of the Ballenger Empire, it is just destined that they should be enemies, and yet… Oh the anticipation, the relationship, the betrayal. I loved it!
