5 Books I Want to Read Update

Back in January I posted about 5 books I really wanted to get to in 2019 and now that we are halfway through the year I thought I would post an update! I have actually read 4 out of 5 of the books and I had a few mixed thoughts/feeling about them. They are all relatively hyped book and I genuinely thought I would love them all but that wasn’t the case…

Skyward by Brandon Sanderson

I was very much invested in the characters and the plot in this book. The battles and the simulation were exciting and precarious. There were definitely rumblings of political schemes in play so I can see it really evolving and expanding a whole lot more in the books to come! Some of the flight jargon and manoeuvrings slowed me down and bored me a little but the overall plot and storyline was very captivating to read!

My Rating: ⭐️4.5/5 stars

Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan

The premise of the book is really unique and I like the eastern cultural influence that is written into the story. The different clans and the different castes really added a layer of complexity to the plot that I enjoyed immensely. I was very much engaged throughout the course of this book as the stakes were always extremely high.

The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang

The overall premise I found highly original and engaging and the magic system was unlike anything I’ve ever read before. Definitely enjoyed the majority of my reading experience however, I’m a little bummed I wasn’t as in love with the story as much everyone else seems to be.

Circe by Madeline Miller

I enjoyed the sort of historical aspect with all of the gods, titans, demigods and monsters and how they came to be in this book, but it was fleeting and the story dragged a little.I found I didn’t really form a connection to any of the characters and by the end of it I honestly really didn’t care. There wasn’t any sort of build-up of anticipation and the ending was a little too open ended for me.

10 Fantasy Favs of 2019!

This week’s Top 10 Tuesday prompt is books from your favourite genre. My favourite genre is without a doubt Fantasy; high fantasy, urban fantasy, epic fantasy and every other sub-genre of fantasy that there is out there! I had a really hard time narrowing this list down to just 10 books so I decided to restrict my list to just fantasy books I’ve read in 2019! I have talked about a lot of these books multiple times on my blog now so I’m not going to go into any details about why, just know that I love each and every one of these books and would 100% recommend them all!

Favourite Books Released in the Last Ten Years (one book for each year)

This weeks Top 10 Tuesday is my favourite books released in the last 10 years (one book for each year). This was a lot of fun to come up with, there were some years where I had 3-4 books that were all released together and it was really difficult to just choose one, but I think this list represents my reading tastes well!

5 Books I Would Never Unhaul

So the Top 10 Tuesday prompt for this week is Books I Refuse to Let Anyone Touch. I thought about it for a while and I realized I just wouldn’t say no to someone who asked to borrow a book of mine. Just because I love to promote reading and encourage my family/friends to read more, however there are quite a few books on my shelves that I know I would never get rid of, so I figured I would list my top 5 books I would never unhaul and why!

The Princess Diaries Mia Goes Fourth by Meg Cabot I was super obsessed with this series when I was about 10/11 and I remember I owned every single one of the books in this series but over the years they’ve somehow dwindled to this remaining one.

Harry Potter Paperback series by J.K. Rowling I have read and reread this series since they were released and these paperback editions are so small and easy to handle that I know I will keep them until they fall apart!

IMG_3757

Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer I will admit I was absolute trash for the Twilight series! I remember I read the series before all of the hype with the movies and Breaking Dawn was my favourite of all the books so I just read and reread this one book so many times. I have had every opportunity to replace this edition and get a new one but I could never go through with it!

IMG_3755

The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis I’ve owned this bind up of all the books from the Chronicles of Narnia for maybe 10-15 years now! When I was younger whenever I got a new book then I would just read it constantly; I can’t tell you how many times I have read this cover to cover. This just has so much nostalgia attached that I know I could never part with it.

Rowan of Rin the Journey by Emily Rodda – Another bind up of a series from my childhood that I will never get rid of! I remember my sister had to read this book for school when she was in year 4 or 5 and I stole it and read it instead. I loved the adventurous nature of the books and the coming of age arc that Rowan undertakes!

5 Fantasy Series I Want to Start Update

I did a post back in January about 5 Fantasy Series that I wanted to start in 2019 and since we are already in May I thought I would do an update of what I’ve started/finished/not even touched yet!

The five series were:

The Seven Realms Series by Cinda Williams Chima – I completed this series this month actually! I absolutely LOVED these books, I think Cinda Williams Chima is a fantastic fantasy author and I will definitely be continuing on with the Shattered Realms series very soon!The-Seven-Realms-Series copy

The Falling Kingdoms Series by Morgan Rhodes – I only currently own Falling Kingdoms and Gathering Darkness. I don’t like to start a series unless I have access to all of the books, so I haven’t had a chance to pick these books up yet.tumblr_o4hpav2jRC1tgcknno1_1280 copy

The Witchlands Series by Susan Dennard – I have completed all of the books that are currently out at the moment. I have been loving this series so far! Iseult and Safi are amazing characters and the plot is getting progressively better with each book!Picture1 copy

The Lightbringer Series by Brent Weeks – I own all of these books but I feel I haven’t prioritized this series because I think I’m not as excited to read it as much as the other series in this list. I will probably get started later on in the year!Screen-Shot-2018-08-02-at-9_16_40-AM copy

The Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb – I also currently own all of the books in this trilogy I just haven’t picked up them up yet! *Spoiler* Assassin’s Apprentice will be on my TBR next month so no doubt I will be completing this trilogy very soon!asssason copy

So far in the last 5 months I have completed 2 out of the 5 series I wanted to read this year. That is a total of 8 out of the 20 books that make up these series. I think I am on track to hopefully finish all of these series by the end of the year; I originally only wanted to get started on these books so I am quietly confident I will have least read at least 1-2 of the books from the other three series before the end of 2019!
