📚Book vs. Movie🎥

This month I decided to resurrect a book and movie from my childhood The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.

When the first movie was about to be released I was perusing a book store and I spotted this movie edition bind up of all of the Chronicles of Narnia and I bought it and read it over and over again! This series hold a lot of nostalgia for me and I recently re-watched the movie and felt compelled to compare the two.

These were my thoughts on The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe:

Pros: The book was super fantastical and magical and I absolutely LOVED it when I first read it. The first story in the series was a little all over the place and nonsensical in a way, but this book really cemented the world of Narnia in my mind and I was able to really envision the world and the characters. The movie I think did a pretty good job sticking to the original plot. I thought the actors were a pretty good match with what I had envisioned them looking like in my mind and I thought the production was amazing!

Cons: The movie just missed a few scenes and didn’t go as in depth with a lot of the drama and action than what was in the books. They did pretty much stick with he original story-line there was just a few key scenes I think they skated over, especially going over the history of Narnia and Aslan.

Overall thoughts: I thought the movie adaptation was a pretty good match for the book. The production was high and they didn’t stray from the original plot. The actors were good and consistent with what I had imagined them in my mind and the depiction of Aslan was amazing!

My Recommendation: You don’t need to read the book to enjoy the movie but I would recommend reading first!

Favorite things to Eat/Drink Whilst Reading

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is your favorite things to eat/drink while your reading. I’m usually too in the zone to even think about eating or drinking, however, there are some occasions I find myself reaching for something while I’m reading so these are 5 of my favorite things I like to eat/drink!

watrer copyOf course you need to stay hydrated and water is really my go to drink at any moment of the day.

Books I’ve Been Avoiding

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt aligns perfectly with my TBR for September. I am using this month to catch up on all of the books I physically own that have been sitting on my shelves for quite a while now. I guess I am about to out myself on why I have been procrastinating on these books, but I will be trying to push myself to get through at least 50% by the end of the month!

So this is 10 books on my TBR I have been avoiding and why:

The 7 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton

This one is just purely the size of the book and the fact that the whole mystery/thriller genre is still relatively new to me. I am really highly anticipating this book but I know it’s going to be a bit of a commitment to finish so I have been putting it off!

The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden

I have heard so much about this series over the last year and it’s been nothing but good reviews, though a lot of people have said it’s a little slower paced. I much prefer fast paced, high action fantasies so that has really deterred me from picking this series up!

The Astonishing Colour of After by Emily X.R. Pan

I think every single person who has read this book has loved it from what I gather. Again I’ve heard that it’s a bit of a slower paced book and that it’s quite sad as well, which really makes me pause. I can handle sad stories but I really need to be in the right mind frame to be able to cope and I just haven’t been there yet…

The Lightbringer Series by Brent Weeks

Again the only reason I haven’t picked these books up yet is because of the size. Now I really don’t mind long books especially in fantasy series, I mean I marathoned The Stormlight Archives late last year and they are all over 1000 pages each, so usually length doesn’t cow me away from books. However it’s more so the premise/concept that isn’t really pulling me in and that along with the size has put me off a little!

The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi

This book at one stage this year was super hyped and I impulse bought it when I saw it at a bookstore and now it’s just been sitting on my shelves ever since. When I bought it I didn’t really know much about it and then after reading the blurb and seeing some not very good reviews it made me put it on the back-burner. I still do want to read it and see whether or not the hype was justified, I just haven’t felt the need to yet.

Books I Enjoyed Outside my Comfort Zone

So I typically only read fantasy but since starting my blog I have really started to expand my reading tastes and dip my toes in other genres. As this week’s Top Ten Tuesday is books I enjoyed outside of my comfort zone I went through and picked 5 books that sparked my love of these other genres.

1 copyThe Death of Mrs Westaway by Ruth Ware – I had wanted to pick up mystery/thrillers for the longest time and I came across The Death of Mrs Westaway in a book store and I remembered it had some good reviews so I picked it up and LOVED it!

36373481

2 copySawkill Girls by Claire Legrand – this was my first real foray into more dark/horror fantasy and I really enjoyed it! This book was super eerie and strange and it captured me right from the start.

38139409

3 copyThe Hating Game by Sally Thorne – This book propelled me back into the world of adult romance/smut. I am a sucker for the hate to love trope and this book executed it perfectly.

4 copyReady Player One by Ernest Cline – Sci-fi isn’t my thing at all and Ready Player One has really been the only book in the sci-fi genre I have been able to stomach so far. I recently read The Long Way to A Small Angry Planet not too long ago and didn’t really enjoy it all that much but I am still open to picking up more books from this genre and exploring what else it has to offer!

8d117c8c-2523-43da-adbf-cbab1c56ad67

5 copyEliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia – this was my real first kind of hard hitting young adult contemporary book with mental health representation included. Up until I picked Eliza and Her Monsters up I was just reading a lot of fluffy YA books with no real substance.

Books I’ve Read but Don’t Own

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is books I’ve read but don’t own. Since I’ve started utilising my local library a lot more this year I’ve acquired a few books now that I have read but don’t own. I kind of have a mild obsession with owning all of the books that I’ve read, but I’ve started to restrict myself to only purchasing books I’ve rated 4/5 stars or higher. Just so I only own books that I know that I absolutely love! I’ve really cut down on just randomly purchasing books based on reviews without actually reading them first!

So these are 10 books I’ve read and rated 4 stars or higher that I will be purchasing soon:

What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli & Adam Silvera
